La Grande Dame

J'étais à Paris....sans ordinateur.....je rattrape un peu maintenant......beaucoup de photos à organiser et pour ne pas vous ennuyer avec 300 photos j'ai fait une sélection et par thème!

I was in Paris.... without my computer..... I'm trying to catch up on things now..... but I've got a lot of photos to organise and as I don't want to bother you with 300 photos, I made a collection by theme.

Bien sûr je suis allée voir La Grande Dame de Paris...... oui grande: 324m ...... comme j'ai fait avec mes autres visites à Paris mais .... j'ai voulu la voir à nouveau, vérifier si elle va bien! Et oui elle va bien et elle est mise en plus de sécurité maintenant.... on ne passe plus en dessous en liberté mais partout il y a des gardes pour examiner des sacs et manteaux.

Of course I wanted to go and see Our Lady of Paris ....again...like before on my other visits here, but I needed to check she was still there! And she was, all 1,063 ft! even more secured than I remember...there were control points everywhere and you cant't just walk underneath her just like that anymore.

Il n'est pas question de prendre des centaines de photos de ce monument photogénique, mais j'ai cherché à prendre une que je n'ai pas pris avant.... finalement tous les angles et points de vues ont été déjà étudiés dans le passé (sachant que son passé est depuis 1889, année de l'exposition universelle), mais ceci est seulement la mienne du moment même.
There's no point in taking hundreds of pictures and showing them here, but I wanted to take pictures from another point of view; another angle....then again every angle I can think of has already been used in the past (knowing that her past exists since the 1889 World's Fair)..... never mind; this is my perception.

En écrivant cet article, en contemplant ce tour, je me posait des questions et j'ai fait beaucoup de recherche sur internet pour mieux connaître. Je ne veux pas étaler tout que j'ai appris; si le sujet vous intéresse vous trouverez facilement des informations et des photos. Ceci je veux partager avec vous, car je m'émerveille à l'idée de sa construction il y a presque 130 ans.

J'ai aussi lu un livre récemment par l'auteur Néerlandais Arthur Japin. Il a écrit en 2015 le roman "De gevleugelde", un roman sur Alberto Santos Dumont, le pionnier franco-brésilien de l'aviation qui a construit de nombreux ballons. Avec un, forme comme le zeppelin, il a volé autour le tour Eiffel en 1900 lors d'un compétition

While writing this post, I wondered about the construction of the tower, so high in those days, nearly 130 years ago, with such limited technology. So I started to look for information on the internet and found this amazing vintage photo that I want to share with you. (link see above).

I read a book recently by the Dutch author Artur Japin. In 2015 he wrote a beautifully written (as are all his books) novel about Alberto Santos Dumont who was a Brazilian aviation pioneer. He designed hot air balloons and with one zeppelin like balloon he participated in a competition and flew round the Eiffel tower in 1900.

En dessous le tour, au sol, il y a des imposantes peintures, symbolique, je pense pour les différents cultures et gens qui se rencontrent ici. Quand je lève la tête je me demande comment entretenir cette énorme construction. Des tonnes et des tonnes de peinture de la couleur "brun-tour-Eiffel" sont appliqués une fois par cinq ans.

Under the tower, on the floor, there are these gigantic paintings of silhouettes in black and white, symbolic perhaps for all the cultures meeting here. Looking up I wondered how to maintain this enormous building. Tons and tons of paint in the colour "brun-tour-Eiffel" are used every five years.

Parlant de la peinture: de nombreux artistes ont créé des œuvres avec la grande dame. Dans le Musée Art Moderne j'ai pris ces photos des tableaux par Robert Delaunay pour une exemple.

Il est temps que je prenne mes pinceaux maintenant.....

Talking about painting: so many artists who painted this tall Lady. In the MAM-paris I took these paintings by Robert Delaunay as an example.

Time to pick up my own brushes...
