Non il ne s'agissait pas de ce tableau. Ce tableau est un des prochains qu'ils ont besoin d'une révision... il m'arrive de laisser certains tableaux se reposer avant que je vois ce que je veux vraiment dire.

No it isn't about this painting although this one needs to be revisited; I am working on it after letting her have a pause until I see what it needs next.

Tout a commencé ici.... avec un défi que les jardinières ont lancé début de l'année pour faire une fois un très grand tableau. Pour ne pas se laisser intimider par sa grande taille elles ont proposé de faire chaque semaine un neuvième de la surface pour un fond, sans réfléchir d'un résultat finale. Pour mes neuf parts j'ai utilisé une couleur et un pochoir fait main différent.... je n'avais aucune idée ce que je voulais faire; je me suis amusée.

It started all here ....... with a challenge the "jardinières" called out for. They proposed we painted a very big canvas for once and as not to feel too intimidated by its size they suggested we divided the canvas into nine parts and paint one part every week. The background we thus created could lead to a subject or be the finished painting..... see as it goes and not overthink any step... For my backgrond I chose a different colour and a handmade stencil every week.... I had no idea where it would bring me.... I just had fun.

En Mars j'ai commencé auditionner des personnages sur la surface en craie que j'ai aussitôt enlevé. L'acrylique fonctionnait bien comme un tableau noir. Un était trop triste, l'autre trop compliqué.... mais j'ai continé jusqu'à j'avais ce que j'ai cherché.

In March I started auditioning characters on the surface with chalk like on a schoolboard. One was too sad, the other one too complicated.... I continued until I had what I looked for.

La femme avec les fleurs dans ses bras m'avait quelque chose à dire... je ne l'entendais pas très bien au début.... et j'ai peint les autour pour fair apparaître des plantes et des feuilles.

The woman with the flowers in her arms had something to tell me..... I could not quite hear clearly what she had to say ..... so I painted out the surface around her until some plants and leaves began to appear.

Je n'étais pas contente avec la végétation et la femme me regardait avec une telle tristesse que j'ai vite peint du gesso par dessus. Il ne restait plus beaucoup du tableau originale.

I was not quite happy with the vegetation around her, nor was the woman as she looked at me with such sadness in her eyes. I quickly covered the background with gesso. There was not much left of the initial painting.

Et toujours, quand je ne sais plus comment continuer, je retourne aux cercles.... et je comprenais qu'il me fallait plus de fleurs pour la plaire. Il faut peut être aussi vous expliquer que j'avais vu le film "The Hours" (voir la bande annonce dans le premier lien) déjà pour la troisième fois cette année que mes pensées allaient dans une certaine direction.....

And as always, when I don't know anymore what to do, I go back to circles.... and then I understood that I had to make more flowers to please her. Perhaps I have to tell you that I had watched the film "The Hours" (see the trailer in english in the second link) already for the third time this year and my reflections were going in that direction....

Lentement une sourire commençait à apparaître sur son visage déformé et  j’avais encore besoin d'ajuster le nez, la bouche, les yeux pour créer la belle femme qui voulais faire son entrée.

Slowly a smile began to form on her still distorted face and I needed quite some painting sessions to adjust her nose, her mouth and her eyes to create the beautiful woman who wanted to make her appearance.

Mais enfin, des nombreuses mois après le début de ce canevas, elle est arrivée; une femme indépendante et consciente me regarde depuis le tableau et elle me dit qu'elle achèterait les fleurs elle même. Le titre en anglais est la première phrase du livre de Virginia Woolf titré "Mrs Dalloway". En français le titre est "fleurs essentielles".

But at last, months after the very beginning of this canvas, here she is; a an independent, conscious woman who looks at me from the canvas and just told me she would buy the flowers herself. The title in english is a quote from Virginia Woolf's book "Mrs Dalloway". In french I call it "fleurs essentielles'

Pas beaucoup de participants pour l'atelier créatif au centre équestre. L'atelier est bien désigné à tous et toutes, pour ceux qui ne montent pas à cheval, pour ceux qui attendent leur cours ou, en revanche, leurs parents après leurs cours. Peut être ils avaient d'autres choses plus importantes à faire...., mais les enfants qui étaient là se sont amusés très bien!

Not many participants this afternoon at the horse riding club to entertain those waiting for their lesson, waiting for their parents, just happy to create without mounting on horseback. It is for parents and children. Well, most people had something else to do, but the few who were there had a whale of time.

Nous avons joué avec des feuilles d'automne et du gesso cet après-midi. L'idée était de couvrir une page entière avec des empreintes de feuilles badigeonnées avec du gesso. J'ai parlé de l'importance de la répétition et comment c'est beau qu'une partie de la feuille 'tombe' à côté du cadre. Ensuite nous avons couvert la page avec des encres, de l écoline.

We printed autumn leaves wih white gesso on white paper. I explained to them about how fun it is to reapeat a pattern and how it is pleasing for the eyes when part of it just doesn't fit on the page but seems to have fallen off. Then we covered the page with inks on water-basis all over.

C'était merveilleux de voir leur visages quand ils ont découvert le rôle du gesso. Partout la couleur était absorbée par le papier mais le blanc du gesso restait assez blanc. Aussi ils le trouvaient surprenant comme les couleurs se mélangeaient entre elles.

It was great to see their surprised faces when they  saw the gesso-ed leaves pop up white in a field of colour or the accidentally mixing of colours.

Un weekend de célébration..... Halloween me donne envie de décorer les citrouilles..... mais ce weekend j'attends tous mes enfants ....occasion rare... 

A weekend of celebration.... Halloween inspires me to paint pumpkins .... but this special weekend is a family reunion too... they're on their way as I write this post.

Je joue avec une photo sur le diana app. C'est une photo du centre équestre et à travers je mélange d'autres photos qui apparaissent superposées et transparentes.

I play with one photo on the diana app on my telephone. It is a picture from the horse riding centre and mixed with this one other pictures appear as a transparant layer over it.

Cell-là est un dessin superposé sur une photo des fleurs. Ça m'inspire pour peindre différemment.

This one is a drawing layered over a photo of some flowers. It inspires me to paint differently.

Tous les jours je me promène.. parfois pas très loin mais avec mon carnet et un crayon et Buffy bien sur ...... et je trouve toujours quelque chose ce que je veux emmener... il faut voir la collection de cailloux ;) .... Il fait beau aujourd'hui aussi, donc j'y vais....

Every day I go for a, at least short, walk with dog and sketchbook .... and I always find something worth to pick up and bring home with me .... you should see my collections of stones and pebbles ;) ... Today is a beautiful day so I'm off....

Et les horloges tournent ...tournent trop vite... plus vite il me semble....

La deuxième semaine de Inktober est déjà passé... je suis l'évènement mais je prends un peu de retard... les mots ne m'inspire pas toujours immédiatement et il y a d'autres choses à faire aussi,.... pas sûre que je tiens le coup jusqu'à la fin.

And clocks are ticking.... faster and faster as it feels for me...

The second week of Inktober has finished ..... I am following the challenge but getting a little behind. The given words don't always inspire immediately and there is more to do than just drawing.... I'm not sure I can keep up till the end of October.

Pour le 8 Octobre le mot était "étoile". J'ai pensé tout de suite à ma chanson favorite: "If the stars were mine" par Melody Gardot.

For the 8th of October I thought of my favourite song straight away: "if the stars were mine" by Melody Gardot.

Mais puisque on peut dessiner ce mot à mille manières j'ai fait au moins un deuxième dessin. C'était car ce bout de papier aquarelle, avec ces tâches était sur ma table, que j'ai trouvé l'inspiration avec un citation trouvé en Flow magazine.

But as there so many ways to picture 'stars', I wanted to make at least a second one. It was because there was this watercolour paper full of splashes that I suddenly saw how to turn it into a star drawing with a quote found in Flow magazine.

Après les précieux étoiles arrivait le mot "précieux". Que pourrait être plus précieux que la vie elle même? Donc j'ai dessiné mon monde avec beaucoup d'éléments précieux. J'ai pris des photos de tous les côtés pour que vous n'avez pas besoin de se mettre à l'envers pour voir tous les détails.

After the precious stars came the word for the ninth of October: "precious". Now what more precious is there than Life?!! So I drew my world with lots of precious elements. As it is a circle drawing I took pictures from all sides so you don't have to sit upside down to see all the details.

Et plouf! le lendemain mon monde précieux doit faire place au mot " cruel"... dans mon précieux monde le bienêtre n'est pas omniprésent malheureusement. A mon école surveillants et enseignants font tout pour que les relations entre les enfants sont le plus agréables mais ça arrive parfois que, cruellement, un enfant n'est pas accepté dans le groupe.

And then... the next day my little bubble bursts and I need to try draw the word cruel. Not my favourite word. In the school where I work I witnessed a situation like this: a child was not accepted in a group and left all alone. My heart breaks when I see that.... It's cruelty on a small scale, but it is there when we can perhaps change the course of things?

Comment dessiner 'flowing'? Heureusement j'étais en ville et j'ai photographié ce statue qui se trouve dans le jardin de ville de Grenoble.

How to draw 'flowing'? It was a happy coincidence that I had been out taking pictures in town. You can find this statue in the park in the centre of Grenoble.

Oh bien on reste dans le thème.... d'abord de l'eau qui coule et maintenant je nage avec les 'baleines'! J'en ai fait deux et je ne pouvais pas choisir quel des deux est le meilleur dessin.

Oh good we stick to the theme of flowing and I go swimming with the 'whales'. I made two drawings and I could not choose which one is the better one, so I show you both.

On y va encore plus dans le profond de la mer et on y trouve un énorme pieuvre qui 'garde' un précieux trésor. Et comme ça mes sujets tournent bien ensemble, en rond.... rond comme le 'clock.'...

Le dernier mot de la semaine était 'clock' Je chante des comptines avec mes petits élèves et 'hickory dickory dock' est favorite!

Let's dive deeper in the sea and see how an octopus 'guards' a precious treasure! And like that all my pictures fit together in a way.... all turns round.... round like the 'clock'.

The last word of the week was 'clock' I sing nursery rhymes with french primary school children to teach them the beginnings of english. They love to sing 'hickory dickory dock'.
