When I finished this dutch novel I couldn't set myself to start doing something else....my thoughts were with the unfinished story of this first tome.....but the next will never come as the writer died of cancer only weeks after having written the first part.....it's so sad, such a talented author!!!
Then suddenly I jumped because of a loud thump against the window......Oh no!!! a little bird, a sparrow... I hurried outside to see if I could do something..... I didn't want to touch it, or frighten it. I just put a chair so, that the shadow fell over its arching body. It was gasping for air or of pain....but then it turned over...but it was still in distress obviously....!
But it got up on its little feet, hardly capable to place them straight on the smooth tiles of our terrace.....it was still fighting for life but there was hope....just look at the way it fixed his eyes upon me.... I could tell it had gathered its wits. I quickly got my camera, always near at hand, to steal a moment of getting a close look at this lovely little bird. (you do understand that this story must have a happy ending if not I wouldn't have showed you this agony).... brave little birdie...
It opened its eyes....yesss! ....come on tiny tim..... He took some more gasps of air and suddenly shut its beak and it turned towards me with a questioning look on its face....well ...that's how I saw it....
'pardon' me dit-il, j'imagine....
I quietly turned to the other side and I noticed how its eyes followed me .....but then changed its expression....it got kind of a guilty look in its eyes..... 'sorry' said the little sparrow.....as I imagined.....
And I understood why the moment it flew up and away......it left me a little souvenir....
Thank you birdie.....and now I wanted to draw it, of course, but then again....did you see the delicate feathers so carefully laid against its fragile body...how could I ever catch that in a drawing? There may be an answer found in the next book I was going to read....it was waiting for quite some time to be read. It was a present of a friend for my husband just after he had a stroke. The author suffered from a stroke too. Drawing saved his life and happiness!
